Abstract
|
|
|
A study on the physical growth status for school-children has been carried out on 1700 school-children of Song-do primary school located in Song-do beach, Busan, Korea, from November to December, 1972.
The evolution of the physical growth has been carried out through measurement of height, weight and chest-girth.
The summarized results were as follows.
1. Height
(1) Among boys
The height in the age 6 was ,113.5 cm and that in the age 11 was 142. 3 cm.
The average of growth rate in height a year was 4.6 cm. (2) Among girls
The height in the age 6 was 114.2 cm and that in the age 11 was 143.8 cm. The average of growth rate in height a year was 4.9 cm. (3) Comparing boys with girls
In the age 6, Girls were higher than boys.
In the age 7-8, Girls were shorter than boys. In the age 9-11, Girls were higher than boys.
All measurements of height were higher than the Korean standard.
2. Chest-Girth.
(1) Among boys
The chest-girth in the age 6 was 59.4 cm and that in the age 11 was 68.2 cm.
The average of growth rate in chest-girth a year was 2 cm. (2) Among girls
The chest-girth in the age 6 was 58.2 cm and that in the age 11 was 69.0
cm. The average of growth rate in chest-girth a year was 3 cm. (3) Comparing boys with girls
In the age 6-10, Girls were shorter than boys. In the age 11, Girls were longer than boys.
All measurements of chest-girth were longer than the Korean standard. 3. Weight
(1) Among boys
The weight in the age 6 was 20.5 kg and that in the age 11 was 32.6 kg. The average of growth rate in weight was 2 kg. (2) Among girls
The weight in the age 6 was 19.2 kg and that in the age 11 was 34.2 kg. The average of growth rate in weight was 2.5 kg.
(3) Comparing boys and girls
In the age 6-8, Girls were lighter than boys.
In the age 9-11, Girls were heavier than boys.
All measurements, of weight were higher than the Korean standard.
